Is ‘leaving the field’ the end of accountability? Perhaps engagement could be one way to continue accountability outside the field. We need to look at some forms of accountability that could be built into collaboration. We also need to look at involving non-academics in some way… we need to think really hard about how this should happen.

Second, many of us feel an anxiety in India, because of a contradiction. We are thriving as a place of research, in terms of production of research. But we are facing a crisis in terms of production of researchers. One of the problems in that – and there are many that are internal – is the attractiveness of the other site. I am not talking about brain drain here, there will always be people here. But we also need to look at graduate education, and here an outsider point of view would be helpful.
