The Making of “Publicly Talking about Caste” (The Worm of Merit)

From Dalit Camera: Through Un-Touchable Eyes

Prof. Sundar Sarukkai and Prof. Gopal Guru speak about the Prajavani (Kannada Daily) Project, a six-month long exercise chronicling the contemporary incarnations of caste. One of the concerns of the project was to look at caste in vernacular discourses and its absence in English (especially the English media). In english media the only point of caste is discussed on Reservation policy, the mainstream media has scrutinized the much discussion on caste. Henceforth the project was to write about caste. The intention was to bridge the disconnect between social theorizations of caste and people’s experiences.

The entire discussion came after the book “The Cracked Mirror” co-authored by both.
