Gender and Sexuality (Semester 3)

This course seeks to engage with different ways in which notions of gender and sexuality are understood, constructed, experienced, and resisted in specific academic and cultural contexts. At the core of the explorations are questions of the body; biological and social identities; maleness and femaleness; normative, performative and alternative sexuality; inter-gender and transgender; feminisms and masculinities. While close attention is paid to key theorists in the field, and historical development (of Gender Studies and LGBTQI Studies), the course is equally invested in how these issues shape creative texts, as well as personal narratives and perceptions.
