Law and Society

This course will examine law as a social institution and explore both legal institutions as well as legal actors, legal reasoning, legal devices and systems, and all those social, political, economic and cultural aspects of law. The course will expose students to the ways in which law, legal institutions and legal practices are employed by various social actors to reach different and often contradicting ends. This course will serve as introductory to the advanced Legal Anthropology course provided in MA, Sociology.
