Logic for Beginners

The course will introduce the basic notions of western logic to the students. It will be a mixed course. In the first few classes, a brief history of logic — especially Aristotelian logic — will be taught. Then the students will learn the basic notions of formal logic. Translating ordinary language arguments into formal arguments will be one of the important aspects of the course. Topics include: History of Aristotelian logic. Square of Opposition. Translation. Stoic logic. Propositional Calculus. Predicate Calculus (basic)
