Media, Society and Representations

This elective will provide students an introduction to media and its relation to culture and society. The course will engage students in a critical inquiry of media as socially, politically and economically embedded as well as productive of local and global political ideas. The course will also examine new media and the production of popular culture and their relevance in the study of social practices. This course will serve as introductory to the advanced Sociology of Media course provided in MA, Sociology.
