Centre for Cultural History at the Manipal Centre of Philosophy and Humanities held a talk on Mythology: Questioning the nature of truth which was led by Dr.Devdutt Pattanaik on the 17th March at the Gangubai Hanagal Auditorium. Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik is the author of 30 books and 600 columns ,including best sellers namely My Gita, Jaya and the 7 Secret Series. In this talk, Dr.Devdutt Pattanaik spoke on the word “Myth” which for many evokes a sense of falsehood. But only some know that Myth or Mithya is truth seen through a reference. This talk explored the truth behind mythology, which the speaker believes is an inherent form of the truth about life and death, nature and culture and perfection and possibility. Rather than allowing myth to be a subjective and cultural truth of Hinduism, Pattanaik believes that it is simply yet another humanistic way of understanding life.
