Ornaments in New Dramatic Art – Lecture by Dr Andrew Ollett

On 15th February, 2017, Dr. Andrew Ollett a Junior Fellow at Harvard University’s Society of Fellows, presented a lecture on Ornaments in New Dramatic Art. He works on the intellectual and literary traditions of pre modern India.

In this talk, he focuses on the Treatise’s “ornaments”. Abhinavgupta takes a teaching that is limited or outdated in the first glance but later brings it up to date with contemporar’s. He reads some selections from the 16th chapter of the New Dramatic Art and tries to connect the “structural” view of literature presented there with the “phenomological” view presented in the 6th chapter.
