This course takes the famous debate in Indian sociology on the nature and character of Sociology in India as the point of departure. Is sociology a universal discipline and applicable for India as it is applicable for the modern world? Or Sociology in India must evolve to grapple with the specific nature and character of Indian society. In exploring this debate, the course seeks to set up issues that must be intensively studied to have a sociological understanding of Indian society. It is an introductory to MA course, titled Sociology of India.
